WHAT IS NUCCA?
NUCCA is an upper-cervical chiropractic technique that is scientific, gentle, precise, and effective.
It focuses on the Atlas, which is the first cervical bone in the spine located at the base of the scull.The C1 vertebra was named after Atlas, a God in Greek mythology who was condemned by Zeus to hold up the world forever on his shoulders.
With the average human head weighing as much as a bowling ball, between 8-12 lbs, the Atlas bone carries “the weight of the world” on its shoulders.
SPINAL MISALIGNMENT
Unlike every other vertebra in the spine, the Atlas bone is not connected to a disk; only a few ligaments hold it in place. This feature allows your head and neck flexibility and a full range of motion.
Because the Atlas is not connected to any disks, it is the bone most vulnerable to misalignment in the spine.
Because the Atlas is not fused to a disk, accidents, injuries, and the stress of daily living can cause this bone to be knocked out of place. We call this a misalignment.
BODY IMBALANCE
When the Atlas becomes misaligned, it causes a structural imbalance in the body.
This imbalance may result in many painful conditions such as:
